a few snickered that if we were going to counsel them because they have had way too many at a wedding reception, what about very overweight witnesses that have a lifestyle of overindulgence?

My wife wondered where the provision was for a wife with a rotten husband. There was no reciprocal way for her to fill out a form and leave. Pretty much the provision was for chattel marriage. The elder did pointedly say this divorcing cannot be done nowadays in the congregation.

Truth....
Our congregation did give rent money once to a family that in my opinion was lazy. I was never an elder so was not privy to the thinking. They have done meals for people after an operation. Other than that charity consists of finding a mark to give to someone or provide aid.

they were reasonable, intelligent and moderate.
the others were either extremely extreme about everything or very liberal.. did you have qualified older men or were they all lousy to you?

I think the confidential letter was read to us 2 weeks ago. Complete with a stern warningto obey. Then last week they had to walk it back because we do not have bethelites.

Virtually all now seem to be rigid company men. And like the title and power. A few of the old ones were human but around here they have all died.
